“Red skies at night, sailors delight.” The Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner raced through my mind as I snapped this photographed of a Sarasota sunset. Spectacular! Yes and made better by the sailboat perfectly blanketing the sun. “Red skies at night, sailors delight.” It promises good weather tomorrow and has been a forecaster for millions of sailors for hundreds of years. Tomorrow the sea will be a friend, tomorrow the skies will be clear, tomorrow you will be safe. Good weather, good fortune? What about the other line - “Red skies in morning, sailors take warning.” Should we really trust our life to chance and to rhymes? Or should we trust in the Lord? With the Lord it doesn’t matter which way the wind blows, it blows for us. |
